maglok pinged a few of us to check something out with him, a project that was slated for summer 2008. An artist wanted to do a larp concept and had hired a Danish larp organiser to do it, and they wanted to meet a few of us to discuss their plans, cause it sounded mighty interesting. It was a weird vibe, that afternoon, as I said earlier in this post. Fact remains that our Danish organizer, Bjarke Pedersen has among other things organized Knutepunkt 2007, the closest thing larp has to something like GenCon. His larping accolades include Live Warhammer, larping in a Submarine and a youth larping program on a scale that absolutely boggled us.
The artist, Brody, wanted to do this for the Arnhem festival Sonsbeek 2008, a massive art festival in the park itself, all Summer. The larp is therefore going to be sponsored in both infrastructure, location and resources by the festival itself, providing a support system that larps generally only dream of. That Sunday we met the support crew and the people involved, had a great time and found out that Danish larpers are just as good as most in the 'no shit, there I was...' moments as any Dutchees. We walked away with a weird sort of tingle in our stomachs... something new was afoot.
Our job in all of this: let the Dutch larpers know it exists. Without 'local' support, something like this won't work, and while Bjarke could call in Danish larpers, he wanted Dutchees.
So, here is my salespitch:
- Only this summer.
- Unique location, for just this one time.
- Cheap due to heavy sponsoring.
- They provide partial costumes and full food benefits, with the infrastructure of an entire organisation behind it.
- We can ignore other visitors to the park.
- Nordic style larping in the Netherlands
- Several weekends in the Summer, so multiple chances to attend.
- Unique chance to do something very different and have a lot of fun doing it.
I myself am going to take a long hard look at my Summer's vacation to decide with to do, but I want to attend at least one thing. The chance is just too good to pass up. And just to get it straight: no Dutchee organisers have anything to do with it other then to let people know it exists, including myself. Me, I intend to play there, and claim the Wizard's Tower for myself!
